A very long time ago before there were people on the earth, the Gods were sitting in their palace on high, and out of their boredom they created the Sun and the Moon to fill up the empty sky. The Sun felt he should be king of the sky because he was brighter and bigger than the Moon, However, the Moon felt she should be queen of the sky because she was far more beautiful. After many years of arguing they grew to hate each other. This hatred escalated into a full blown war, and lasted for over a billion years. It was a constant struggle between light and dark each one fighting for control of the sky, yet neither one was strong enough to win. Finally the Gods grew tired of watching and summoned Sun and Moon to their palace on high. Father God was the leader of all the other gods, and he made Sun and Moon sit down in the throne room. He told them with a deep booming voice that he was very unhappy with the way the two of them were behaving. He also told them that the other Gods were planning to put live creatures on the earth, and that the Sun and the Moon fighting was going to make it hard for these live creatures to stay alive. Sun and Moon could not make peace
however hard they tried and Father God grew angry. To punish them, he tore a piece from each of them and then cast Sun in the center of the universe. Father God told the Sun that since he was bigger he would have prominence, but he would only be seen for half of the day. Father God then placed Moon nearer to the earth and told her that she would have prominence over the earth. She would also be seen for half the day. That time would be called night. In essence the two of the were going to share the sky. The Sun and the Moon were not happy, but they agreed to Father God's wishes. Father God was not done. He told them that the pieces of each of them that he took would be used to make sure that the two of them would have to spend as little time as possible together. With the piece he took from Moon he created a boy named Twilight, and with the piece from Sun he created a girl named Dawn. The plan was simple. When Twilight showed himself, Sun would know that it was time for Moon to take over the sky, and when Dawn showed herself it was Sun's turn. Sun and Moon would never have to see each other. Twilight and Dawn would be their messengers. Sun and Moon agreed and took their children to their castles in the sky, and for a long time all was good, and there was harmony in the universe.
After several thousand years Sun and Moon stopped fighting in fact, they never spoke to each other at all. Dawn and Twilight were doing their jobs wonderfully, and the heavens were at peace. Then, one day something really strange happened. When Dawn flew across the sky to warn of Sun's arrival, she didn't look where she was going and she bumped into Twilight.
The two of them just stared at each other for several seconds, and then Dawn did the unthinkable. She said hello. Twilight kept staring, and was about to answer her when he heard Moon call to him. He grew scared and ran off. Later on, Twilight flew across the sky to warn of Moon's approach, and as Sun went off to his palace, Twilight spied Dawn in the folds of Sun's robe.
Twilight noticed that she was quite beautiful, and said to her, "hello." Sun heard this and turned to face Twilight. He told him that he should never speak to his child, and that doing so again would mean big trouble. Well, Twilight ran off and told Moon what Sun said to him, and she grew enraged. She told Twilight that Sun was right about him not speaking to Dawn, but he should not have threatened him. Moon flew off and went right up into the face of Sun and told him that he is not to threaten her child again. Sun told her to stay out of his way. Moon would not hear of this any longer. She stepped in front of him, spread out her robes, and blocked all of Sun's light from reaching the Earth.
Meanwhile, the new people that Father God had placed on the Earth grew very afraid because it was not the regular time for it to be dark. They prayed and prayed for the Gods to make them understand what was going on. In the heavens Father God was enraged. He summoned both Sun and Moon to the grand palace, and began to scream and rage at them. Sun tried to explain, and Moon tried to explain but Father God would not hear any of it. He told them that they have been causing him trouble for too long and that now they were going to be punished. Suddenly, Twilight and Dawn appeared and bowed before him. Both of them begged for mercy. Father God looked at them with pity in his eyes, and decided that he would indeed have pity on them, but that they still must be punished. Father God summoned all the other Gods from all over the cosmos and convened a grand council to decide what was going to be done with them. The meeting went on for days and days. Some of the Gods wanted them all destroyed, and some of Gods wanted nothing done at all. Finally, after weeks of deliberation Father God had reached a decision. He then summoned Sun, Moon, Dawn, and Twilight into the royal chamber. Father God then told them all of his ruling. He told Moon that since she eclipsed Sun, and invaded the sky during Sun's time she would have to work very hard. Her punishment was to move the waters of the Earth back and forth. He then told Sun that because he became haughty he would also have to work hard, and with that Father God created eight more planets in the heavens that Sun would have to spread his light to.
Finally, Father God made his last ruling. He told Sun and Moon that in order to keep the peace between them Dawn and Twilight were to be married. Now light and dark were going to be united.
Dawn and Twilight were married in a tremendous ceremony the very next day. Sun and Moon were both allowed to attend, and they both shined very brightly in the sky. Several years later, Dawn gave birth to children called Stars. The Stars were a fusion of light and dark, tiny suns that thrived in the dark of Moon's robes. Their beauty caused Sun and Moon to make peace, and they have remained so to this very day.
