A once in a blue-moon kind of dusk...
time doing its absolute damndest 
to outrun night’s slow glide
across the moor
 
was then I spotted them; a pair 
of Whooper Swans, wowing clouds – 
breasts of beaten bronze, calling each
to each – like journeying sunsets, 
heading due south;
 
beneath their wings – the snaking, 
silver spine of the river – a raspberry,
paisley sky, and a crèche of stars, 
and did you know, when they mate
they mate for life?
 
Singing scarlet into the lemon trees,
slicing the silence, like a knife.

What a beautiful poem of nature and all that is evocative of what we want from love. The last stanza followed  by the final two lines has it for me. It's lovely - gives me that strange feeling I get when I see swans, or geese flying over - like all my memories.

A perfect I P Tina,

you describe all of nature beautifully. Those swans mating for life set the scene too.

I loved the raspberry, paisley sky and the creche of stars. A perfect combination.
