Dismissed
Don't worry; I'm at peace now,
Safe inside my pine box,
Draped in the flag I fought and died for,
Don't pity me, it was my job, I'm a soldier,
I replied to my country's call,
I have seen things and lands far away,
Shed blood, others, and mine.
Don't worry I'm with my comrades,
We bore our arms with pride,
Laughing and dying together,
Don't pity me; I'm a soldier,
Parents must be distraught,
Wife and kiddie, devastated,
Shedding tears, having loved me.
Don't worry; I'm at peace now,
Safe in the arms of my angel,
My beloved gathered round,
Last post blown, volley peals out,
Don't pity me; I'm a soldier,
Only my mortal remains descend,
My spirit remains your constant companion,
A British soldier - now dismissed.
