A Perfect Lazy Day
by Andrew Bohn
A lazy day can be spent in a multitude of ways, with a multitude of different people. Whether it be spent at home or at a favorite destination, a day filled with nothing can actually be a day filled with everything.
Although the term ‘lazy day’ has no concrete definition, we can assume that it consists of a day free of responsibilities and upcoming obligations. When I am presented with an actual lazy day, I prefer that it be rainy throughout the day. The weather is a key factor in setting the mood for a day filled with nothing. I sleep with my blinds open so that the natural sunlight acts as my alarm clock in the morning, but on a rainy, lazy day, there isn’t much sunlight to peak through the windows. This allows me the opportunity to start the day perfect: by sleeping in.
After getting a few extra hours of sleep, I roll out of bed, guzzle my filled water bottle to start my day off with my usually hydration. Water helps me wake up faster and get in a better mood to tackle the day. But on this lazy day, there isn’t much to tackle. I stroll downstairs and out the door to make my way to the gym. Because I have nothing to do today, I skip my my morning run and opt for a few miles on the indoor recovery bike instead. After that, I proceed to sit in the steam room for a few minutes to give my skin a little detox. Once I leave the gym, I hydrate again and make my way home. When I get in the kitchen, I decide to make myself a nice breakfast of scrambled eggs with kale and bowl of granola with almond milk. I turn on my Bose mini speaker and listen to some jazz or classical music just for background accompaniment. After finishing a glass of pomegranate juice, I take a shower and clean up for a day of relaxation.
While choosing a pair of sweatpants and my favorite hooded sweatshirt to wear for the day, I think about the range of possibilities I have to choose from to occupy my time. For the rest of the morning, I opt to sit and watch Game of Thrones so that I’m caught up for the much anticipated season 7. I check my phone every now and again, send a few Snapchats, play some friends back in 8Ball Pool, and refocus my attention my attention on the action filled series playing on my television.
By the time I’ve knocked out a few episodes, I’m hungry once again. I stroll to the kitchen and peruse through the fridge my parents have so generously stocked; because after all, a summer home from college wouldn’t be the same without a plethora of quality food items to chose from. The leftover pasta looks appetizing, as do the pizza rolls in the freezer. But I feel like actually making something today since I have the time, so I decided to whip up a homemade barbecue chicken pizza. I throw on my Bose speaker again, this time with the ‘Italian Dinner’ playlist to ensure I get the full pizza-making experience.
Once I’ve finished my lunch and cleaned up the kitchen, I head to the basement to enjoy a few games of FIFA on the Playstation 3. I score a few goals with Messi and eventually become board of that. I proceed back upstairs and pick up the book my mother recently bought me titled Make Your Bed. I finish a few chapters of that and decide that it’s time for the pinnacle of a lazy day: a nap.
I lay down on my and catch a few more minutes of Game of Thrones before closing my iPad and laying my head down. I don’t need to set an alarm because I have nowhere to be today. I wake up about two hours later, still feeling a little groggy, but wanting to get up and do something else. Its still raining outside, which makes staying in for the night even better. I stroll downstairs in search of food once again. I decide that since it’s been a relaxing day already, I should contuse said relaxation and have someone else cook my food for the evening. I drive to the sacred drive-thru of Chic-Fil-A and order a regular number one, a large fry, and a cookies and cream milkshake. I take my meal home and enjoy it while watching game 2 of the Eastern Conference NBA playoffs; otherwise known as the LeBron James show. When the game hits halftime, I get up in search of the ultimate end a to a lazy day: a drink. I find a few Summer Shandy beers left in the basement fridge and finish them in a daily quick fashion.
I’ve got a fully stomach of chicken sandwich and fries and quenched thirst compliments of Leinenkugel’s. As the basketball game comes to an end, so does my lazy day. I make my way upstairs, brush my teeth, change into some night shorts, open my iPad, and pop my earbuds in. I scroll through social media a few more times and waste a few minutes on YouTube. I notice myself yawning quite a bit and decide it’s time to shut her down for the night. I plug all my electronics in, pull the covers up over my head, and does off to sleep; ready for an actually productive day tomorrow.
