Toe Woes

I had cause to pause and think about my toes
never thought of what my toes might think of me
I figured that I'd listen to their woes
'stead of plodding 'long so selfishly
so at this point I propped them on the bed
fluffed a pillow and stuffed it 'neath my feet
told my toes, to "Please, go right ahead"
as I nestled back for this delicious treat
"I've seen so much of life here on the ground
all kinds of earth and concrete snow and stream
and on naked days I tromped around
grass, sand, tile, carpet clouds within a dream"
as I looked on, my toes picked up their pace
so much to say, those toes they couldn't wait
there was no time to waste
lest we be late
where to my toes were rushing
I didn't know
I followed above them crushing
floor below
"I must show you the places you have missed
places you only wish that you could feel
sand beneath your feet, so hot &; crisp
petal underneath hot at the wheel"
my toes tramped on into my car
and told me, "come on, lets burn rubber"
before I had driven too far
I swear that I hear my toes utter
"brake, stop, halt, this is the spot"
so I pulled off to the side of the road
feet planted on asphalt so hot
and proceeded to unload
