It was a fine spring day and Holmes and I had been pouring over the
Sunday Times, as is our usual procedure just
after having breakfasted. Mrs. Hudson Knocked on the door and handed
over the card of a Mr. Thadeous Thorn, Esq.
"Do show him up, Mrs. Hudson"
As Mrs. Hudson went down to do as ordered Holmes excitedly rubbed his
hands together.
"Well, Watson, I'm up for a bit of adventure, how say you?"
"Always, dear boy, always"
"That's a fellow. Now what do you suppose brings a man out on so fine
a day?"
"I'm sure I don't know, Holmes, but I do believe I hear his tread upon
the stairs"
"Come, Watson, you must have some idea; no matter how off the mark it
may prove"
"Holmes, I have no idea, but I believe we shall have an answer
momentarily"
"My word, you're a prickly pear, man. No ideas at all?"
"For the last fucking time, Holmes, I don't know!"
"No need for the gutter speak, old chap. Perhaps a kidnaping or a
purloined letter. How about that, Watson, we must recover a letter of
the utmost importance or it could mean war"
"What the hell are you talking about? Is this about last night?
"I don't know what you mean, old friend"
"Holmes, it happens to all men. I treat as a compliment that you are
still a little nervous in bed"
"Shut up, you old poof. I told you it was the cocaine. One sad effect
of the drug is a floppy prick, but it's benefits far out weight its
draw backs"
"So you say"
"Oh, really? You just wait until tonight and I'll show you a cock as
solid as the Rock of Gibraltar!"
"If only"
Mr. Thorn entered the sitting area and Holmes bid him sit own. I can
only say it was a matter of the most importance.
