bag o’ bones

our hearts grew thin
and rangy
from lack of light
and love put in
we were starving,
we were famished
we were dying
for more.
All the love
we wanted
was all the love
we would never get.
you were thin
like a snake
and I held you;
fragile
as a paper
beating heart.
so thin you could
see me
so parched you could
see us
the bare bones
bag o’bones bag o’ bones
we were famished,
hungry for more;
spent like sticks.
our spines rubbing
our skins
like asphalt poking up
Through pavements,
Like love trying to get in
our hearts
were thin
and rangy,
spent like bones.
