By the time the end came
It was hard to remember
How many you'd had
Sometimes the only way
I could remember was to
Count the ridges on your nails
It was almost a whole year
That you had to have them
They took their tole on you
When the end came
You were hairless and loosing weight
I can remember making you laugh
As I cut your fading hair
All to the same length
Just after the end
It was painful to think of little things
But now these unimportant things
Are all I have to remember.
