Tomas had had a big day. His mummy gently kissed his forehead and said "I love you angel. Have sweet dreams. Tomas smiled, closed his eyes and waited for his dreams to come.
Tomas could hear the faint sound of music. It sounded like a marching band and it was getting louder¦ and louder¦ and louder¦ until Tomas could see them coming over the hill towards him. They wore smart green jackets with matching caps and gold tassles on their shoulders and each of them was playing an instrument as they passed him. One boy was playing the flute. He stopped in front of Tomas and said "we've lost our drummer. Will you join us? And so he did. The boy lifted the drum, almost the same size as Tomas and pulled the strap over Tomas's head and handed him the drumsticks. Tomas crashed and banged his drum as loud as he could and he didn't miss a beat before he and the rest of the marching band were off down the hill playing a magical tune as they went.
As Tomas and the marching band approached the bottom of the hill, Tomas noticed a magnificent site. There before him stood a humongous Ferris wheel with multi-coloured carriages for all the kids to ride on. Tomas grew more and more excited the closer he got until he was standing right at the bottom of the huge wheel. The band marched on, turning only to wave goodbye to their new friend and Tomas was left alone to take in the ride.
Tomas loved Ferris wheels. An old man sat with his feet up and a hat tilted downwards to cover his eyes which were closed. Next to him were the controls. "Can I have a go? Tomas asked the man. "Of course! said the man without looking up. So Tomas climbed into the carriage that seemed to have been waiting just for him and the man pressed the start button. Up¦Up¦Up¦went Tomas in his blue and grene striped carriage until he was at the very tippy top of the Ferris wheel. From there he could see everything even the marching band as it disappeared into the distance. From the very top of the ride, Tomas could also see a gigantic giraffe munching away at apples from a tree. All that drumming had made Tomas very hungry and after the Ferris wheel took him all the way around another 3 times, he jumped off and thanked the controller. He headed towards the giraffe he had seen eating the delicious apples.
Tomas liked Giraffes and wasn't in the least bit frightened as he got closer¦and closer¦and closer to where it stood. The Giraffe noticed Tomas coming towards him and bent his long stretchy, spotted neck down towards him. "Hellllooo. said the Giraffe. His face was right up close to Tomas now. "Hello! answered Tomas. "Those are lovely looking apples. Could I have one? he asked. "Of course! answered the Giraffe. "Climb on to my neck and hold onto my ears. I will take you to the very tipy top of the tree where all the best apples are. Tomas climbed aboard and held on tight as the Giraffe raised his head slowly to the top of the tree. Tomas picked the reddest, shinniest, crunchiest apple he could fine and took a huge bite before jumping back onto the Giraffe to be lowered back down to the ground.
"Thank you! Shouted Tomas up to the extremely tall giraffe. "My pleasure replied the Giraffe as she started tucking in to the fruit once again.
Tomas hadn't walked far when he came to a beautiful clear blue river. He sat down on the bank to finish his shiny red apple and watch the leaves from the trees above floating downwards with the current. As he watched for more leaves, Tomas noticed an unusual shape floating towards him. As it got closer, he realised it was a giant turtle with his big green shell bob¦bob¦bobbing along. Tomas waved as the Turtle approached and the creature stopped right in front of him to say hello. He had a pokey-outy wrinkly neck and eyes like black marbles on either side of his face. "Gooooddd Mooorrrrnnning¦¦¦¦.. the Turtle said lazily and very slowly. "Would you like to come for ride down the river with meeeeeeee? he asked Tomas. "Yes Please answered Tomas as he jumped up from the river bank towards the Turtle. Carefully, he tip-toed through the cool shallow water and climbed onto the Turtles shell and away they went. They passed a mummy duck teaching her ducklings to swim. They said good morning to two Swans cleaning each others elegant feathers. They even joined a school of bright pink salmon swimming upstream.
By the time the Turtle came to rest at the bottom of the river, Tomas was feeling quite tired. After wishing his new friend goodbye, Tomas found a beautiful Pussy Willow tree not far away. Tomas could hardly keep his eyes open as he curled up next to the trunk of the tree. The grass was soft and cool underneath him and the branches hung down around him like soft curtains swinging gently in the breeze. Tomas closed his eyes to think about the adventures he had had that day.
When Tomas opened his eyes again, his mummy was opening the curtains to let the sunshine into his bedroom. "Did you sleep well angel? She asked him "Did you have good dreams? Tomas closed his eyes, smiled and snuggled into his pillow once more. "Yes mummy ' very nice dreams!
