Cherished Memories

Always in his same chair,
Wooden, but covered with brown,
Sat lightly, never hearing,
But always listening!
"Who's that?...Don't know her!"
Then back to puzzles,
Jigsaws and crosswords.
Still I remember,
Those strange little things,
Slurping the tea,
Taking control of the telly zapper,
And falling asleep, then saying,
"Who me?...I was awake all the time,
I just had my eyes closed!"
Always there to meet a challenge,
Maths homework his speciality,
How he'd puzzle and work things out,
Never ceasing to amaze.
People would say, " Here today and gone tomorrow."
But I never thought it could be true.
Now there's no more tea slurping or telly-zapping,
Maths homework or tales of the past,
Just memories,
Of my white haired loving Grandad.
