Dean Martin, M.D. by J.B. Pravda
The study was nearing completion, save with respect to certain
unexpected data as to one participant, an atypical alcholism volunteer,
a regular blood donor at the Center; as he reached for his next liquid
drug dose he knew as unblended Scotch, the hand-picked test subject's
body autonomically dispatched several thousand neurons away from any
sober process to the pleasure 'front', driven by the little understood
and nonlocal neural cluster the research scientists had tentatively
labeled Deanicus Martinus, the general effect of which was a sublimated
though steady impulse to ingest such over-the-counter self-medication
of self-pitying provenance, accompanied by the melodic refrain: 'the
post-modern world, their 'Brave New World'----featuring brain worship
&; pharmacological deadening of the thusly suffering soul---- once
deconstructed and laid bare, with all its reductionist/Cartesian
arrogance won't bring me happiness, when 'um growin old'.
