THE CAT WITH NO TAIL
Max was an adventurous cat, who often went for long walks to see new
things and meet new friends.
Max was on one of his journeys when he passed a pond and he stopped to
look at all the ducks swimming, he meowed a hello and they quacked in
response.
A little fluffy duck at the very back started laughing and pointing at
Max quacking
"Look, look, that cat has no tail."
"Oh yes I have" meowed Max and he ran round and round in circles trying
to find it to show the little duck until he got very dizzy and had to
stop.
I must have a tail thought Max, by now feeling very sorry for
himself.
The mummy duck swam over and quacked to Max that he must have lost it
on his walk and wished him good luck in finding it.
Max walked off looking here there and everywhere for his tail until a
small puppy interrupted him.
"What are you looking for?" the puppy yelped.
"I'm looking for my tail" meowed Max
"Have you seen one? "
"No " said puppy "But I can help you look for it."
The puppy ran round and round in circles until he too got dizzy and
yelped with glee when he yapped
"I've found it, I've found it", and he did indeed have a tail in his
mouth, it was his own. Max thought this was very funny and forgot all
about being sad at not finding his tail. Just then the puppies mum
barked for him to come home and he wished Max luck on finding his
tail.
Max wandered into a field and came across a family of foxes, who had
wonderful big bushy tails.
"I wonder if they have found mine?" thought Max and ran over to ask
them.
The foxes thought this was a very funny question to be asked and
doubled up with laughter until they saw how serious Max looked and said
they would help him.
Four little foxes ran round and round in circles until they all felt
dizzy yet the only tails they could find were their own.
Max was very happy to have had their help and thanked them all and went
off to find his lost tail.
A little calf was grazing in the field and Max kindly interrupted and
asked the calf "Have you seen my tail anywhere?"
"No" mooed the little calf "But I will help you look for it." So the
little calf went round and round in circles and the only tail she could
find was her own. Her tail was a long tail that swished about like a
long whip, so Max knew that was not what his would look like, if he
ever found it.
Max said thank you to the calf and the calf wished him luck.
Max could see a tail disappear up high into a tree.
"I wonder if that my tail? " thought Max and he jumped on the tree and
climbed to the top. He had just managed to grab the tail when it let
out a very strange noise, a face appeared and Max was very shocked to
see it wasn't his tail at all. It belonged to a squirrel. The squirrel
was very annoyed but once Max explained about his problem, the squirrel
offered to help him look for it.
Round and round in circles they went until the squirrel got so dizzy he
almost toppled out of the tree but still there was no sign of the lost
tail. Max said "Thank you and went on his way still looking for his
troublesome tail.
Walking on Max stopped to watch some piglets, there seemed to be
hundreds of them.
"I'm sure one of those tails must be mine" he thought, and he jumped in
beside them to ask. The piglets all grunted in laughter.
"Our tails are curly and pink and belong to us" they said.
"But we will help you look for yours" they offered, so hundreds of
piglets ran around and around in circles to help Max look for his tail
and all got dizzy and fell down.
They all thought that this was great fun and were still laughing when
Max said goodbye and thank you and went on his way.
Max was getting quite tired now and decided he should head for home, he
remembered what a lovely day he had and all the new friends he had made
and how kind they all were in trying to help him find his tail.
Max was nearly home when he heard a familiar meow. It was his mum. She
was out looking for him and was quite cross, when Max explained were he
had been and why. His mum laughed and laughed and said
"Max you are a silly pussy cat, we are Manx cats and Manx cats do not
have tails."
