GORDON THE GNOME
Gordon was a happy gnome who lived at the bottom of a garden with the
rest of his gnome family on a farmyard.
One stormy night, it was so windy little Gordon was picked up from the
bottom of the garden and blown high into the sky.
This did not worry Gordon at all as he loved adventures and he soon
landed safely but had no idea where he was.
Now Gordon the Gnome had no home and has to find one to be happy
again.
Let's follow Gordon on his journey and find out if he finds a
home.
Gordon the Gnome stood up and shook all the leaves from his head and
said to himself.
"I'm Gordon the Gnome and I must find a home."
He had no idea where he was but thought it better to start walking that
stay put. He had not gone very far when he heard a strange noise but on
looking around, could not see anything. This time the noise was much
louder and Gordon looked up to see a large feathery animal high in the
tree above him.
"Hello there I'm Gordon the gnome and I have no home,
What shall I do?
Can I live with you?"
"I'm Ollie the Owl, I live in this tree,
There's no room here, be off, shoo, flee."
Poor Gordon the Gnome walked away feeling very sorry for himself, then
decided he would not be at all happy sharing a home with a grumpy owl
like that. I would never have reached up there anyway, " he said to
himself.
As Gordon walked on he could hear a strange sniff sniff, sniff, sound
and went in that direction to investigate. All of a sudden Gordon felt
a cold, wet nose by his leg and giggled as he looked down to see a
lovely golden red furry animal with a big bushy tail.
"Hello there I'm Gordon the Gnome and I have no home,
What shall I do?
Can I live with you?"
"I'm Freddie the Fox, I live in a den,
You smell nice. Are you a hen?"
Gordon did not like Freddie the Fox thinking he was a hen so he ran as
fast as his little legs would carry him until he thought it was safe to
stop.
In the distance he could hear the splash of water so walked in the
direction of the sound to see if someone there could give him a
home.
As he got to the water's edge Gordon jumped for joy, he thought he had
found his little brother Gerry Gnome but was soon disappointed as he
was looking at his own reflection in the water.
Gordon was just about to cry when something leapt out of the water and
splashed him until little drips were running down his little nose, this
made him giggle once again.
"Hello I'm Gordon the Gnome and I have no home.
What shall I do?
Can I live with you?"
"I'm Finny the Fish, I live in the river,
You can't live with me, all you'll do is shiver."
And off Finny splashed with a final flick of his tail to soak poor
Gordon on the nose again. Well thought Gordon, Finny is right, I don't
like being wet again and it's cold too.
Gordon walked away from the water and dried himself on some leaves.
I'll just have to keep trying said Gordon, someone somewhere will give
me a home.
As he walked Gordon could hear a loud quacking noise and went off in
that direction, until he came face to face with lots of feathers a beak
and a bottom that waddled,
"Hello there I'm Gordon the Gnome and I have no home,
What shall I do?
Can I live with you?"
"I'm David the Duck, I live on the pond,
You can't live with me, of you I'm not fond."
Poor Gordon the Gnome felt very fed up, he had done nothing to David
the Duck, so how could he not be fond of him. Gordon found a tree stump
and sat down wondering which way to go now.
Out of the sky large nuts came bouncing down on his head, he could not
look up, as he did not know when the sky would stop raining nuts. Just
then an animal tumbled down and looked very funny gathering up all his
nuts as if he would never see another one again. Not another bushy tail
thought Gordon, I hope he does not think that I'm a hen too.
"Hello there I'm Gordon the Gnome and I have no home,
What shall I do?
Can I live with you?"
"I'm Sammy the Squirrel, I live in the trees,
You can't live with me, You'll catch fleas."
And with a swish of his bushy tail he was gone and poor Gordon the
Gnome was left with an urge to scratch, yet he knew he did not have
fleas.
Gordon got on to his feet again and walked further and further until he
could see some light ahead, the sky was not so dark now and Gordon knew
it would soon be morning and he still hadn't found a home.
Soon he came upon a large wooden building and decided to try his luck
inside, it was a very noisy place and Gordon thought he would be lucky
to find a new home here.
The first thing Gordon saw was a white bundle of fluff jumping around
who looked very happy indeed.
"Hello there I'm Gordon the Gnome and I have no home.
What shall I do?
Can I live with you?"
"I'm Lawrence the Lamb, I live with the Sheep,
You're welcome to visit but you cannot sleep."
Gordon the Gnome was very happy to have made a new friend even if he
could not live with him, Lawrence, Gordon decided was a very nice
lamb.
Now Gordon was getting very tired and he wanted nothing more than to
find a home and go to sleep and he began to yawn, until a bright pink
shiny animal appeared that began to grunt, grunt, grunt as a way of
saying "Hello".
"Hello there I'm Gordon the Gnome and I have no home.
What shall I do?
Can I live with you?"
"I'm Pinkie the Pig, I live in a sty.
I've too many babies, be off, goodbye."
Poor Gordon put his little head down and walked away, if only the wind
had not carried him away from the bottom off the farmyard garden he
would be cosy and warm and most importantly fast asleep by now.
"What am I going to do?" He said quietly to himself.
At last Gordon began to recognise all around him, perhaps he would not
need a new home after all, If I can just make it across that field
thought Gordon and nearly got trampled by another giant hairy animal,
though he looked friendly enough.
"Hello I'm Gordon the Gnome and I have no home,
What shall I do?
Can I live with you?"
"I'm Gruff the Goat, I live in a shed,
You can't live with me I've only one bed."
Oh well thought Gordon it was worth a try,
On and on he went and at last came upon the farmyard house.
"Just through the gate and to the bottom of the garden" he said.
He was so excited he awoke every member of the gnome family, who had no
idea of his disappearance or of his night time adventure and they all
called to him to shush and Gordon was very pleased to do so as he was a
very sleepy Gnome who at last had found his home.
