Here is a set of keys
to a series of locks
that are already open:
a declamatory watch
measuring the weight
between glances
of the second hand;
a ring detached
from its finger.
Other things found
at the edge of life -
bus tickets, photos and scraps of paper,
the diffusing light -
the ragged ephemera:
receipts for moments bought,
the edges frayed
and made dark
in photographic negative;
an umbra of solid body,
real only
for a brief moment
but remembered.
Suddenly, you may realise,
here is everything
held together in a momentary
prison of amber
and made vivid on the screen.
The technology is arcane.
You may not believe what you see.
You must look again.
It is clear,
but this may not be
a delusion of the camera.
