Dishonest Eyes

I look in the mirror and wonder 'who's that?'
a familiar reflection staring back,
Those eyes that I ourght to know,
my partners in life they witnessed me grow.
Two foreign items in a foreign face, stranded
Alone.
Out of place.
Eyes so complex even I can't understand
the reason they've grown so marked and so tanned.
They flicker and flare in memories glad,
and wilt and fade in the times that were sad,
they burn in anger and scowl in hate
and when fly-by dreams pass the eyes grow faint.
They used to care and sympathise, they tried to
pretend they knew my mind.
'Have those eyes of mine been let down?'
'Is it upon my life they frown?'
Why won't they conform and express how they feel?
Traitorous eyes, my life secrets revealed.
