Empty Office

Heart Of The Office
Dormant pens await tomorrow's dexterous fingers
With latent creativity.
Calenders stare blankly fearing a perpetual day.
Keyboards recover from their days exertions
Sleeping under a plastic skin
The heart of the office has gone today.
Intrays bloated on paper meals silently groan their discomfort.
A discarded coat hangs condemned
Whilst bony filing cabinets demand respect
As they guard the space
The heart of the office has left.
The photocopier's repetitive sighs are silenced
Telephones sleep whilst
Handsets with twisted cables keep an uncomfortable vigil
Waiting for the return of the heart of the office.
