Flooding of the Trailers

Today has been interesting. This morning I decided I didn't want to
sit around and do nothing all first block...so Sadie and I went to the
library. We walked in, the door closed, and it started pouring.
There's something you need to know about our school first. They are
remodeling one building and completely starting over on two buildings.
So right now, half of the classes are in trailers on the old baseball
field. It's a very unique situation. The Library is one of the rooms in
the trailers. Yea, the library. All those books, in a double wide
trailer with a ramp and little wooden handrail on the steps.
So there we were, Sadie and I, trapped in a very small room with Mrs.
Joyce (the Librarian), LaRecco, and the witty musings of Mrs.
Dykes...for one and a half hours. A very long one and a half
hours.
Now Mrs. Dykes was a very interesting lady. She was the English teacher
and was one of those people that thought she was hilarious but was
really pretty corny. The kind that laughs at their own jokes. Yea, you
know the kind. She was sitting over there grading papers in her own
little world. And ever so often she would come out of her little world,
and make a statement. A very interesting statement.
In our uneventful one and a half hours, we learned some amazing things
from Mrs. Dykes and the rest of the crew, but Mrs. Dykes mainly. For
instance: We, or rather Mrs. Dykes, discovered the reason that they put
those handrails up there. So we can dock our canoes when we go to our
next class, because we won't be walking out there and the current will
be too strong to swim. Of course we could use the teacups from Disney
Land. That would be a good idea, because surely they float.
On top of all that, Mrs. Dykes kept hearing a mysterious "train"
whistle. Then Sadie decides to remember that she heard that tornadoes
sound just like trains when they come...
So Mrs. Dykes is in the corner rambling on and on about canoes,
flooding, and trains, Sadie is getting nervous, because Mrs. Dykes is
rambling, Mrs. Joyce is watching the weather channel and telling us
there's "a whole string comin' up behind this one," LaRecco's playing
computer games, and I, well, I found a good book.
