HERD

Is the herd beast packed so tight
that no one ever sees their true light?
Is the obscure face in the field
a union thinker or an automate?
Is safety in numbers true or is
the mathematics at fault?
So is it wise for the jungle beast
to flirt in the loner vault?
It's echoed voice replying
but drowned out by jeering.
Such is strength in bulk and evil
the only defense.
But I'm only an observer, sitting
on this lonely, brittle, fence.
