I Do Love You Present
Indulge me with patience and let me orate,
There are things I must tell you before it's too late.
Things I've not said, things I've ignored,
Things that I've kept from the one I've adored.
So grant me a moment and give me your ear,
And I promise I'll not hurt the one I hold dear.
I did love you past -
I do love you present -
I will love you future.
I did not seek romance when I first caught your gaze,
And my soul was not ready to be set ablaze.
So my feelings for you I held in abeyance,
Locked in my heart's own private pleasance.
And oh, such joy I couldn't confide -
It's just that my heart, in its fear, tried to hide.
I did love you past.
Even now when I see you walk in through my door,
My whole body trembles right down to its core.
But still I can't tell you how much that I care,
How much of myself I desire to share
With you - a woman so perfect, a woman so rare.
If only I could... I don't dare.
I do love you present.
From here let me hold you, safe under my arm.
For the rest of your life, I'll keep you from harm.
We'll grow old together, as we surely should,
And no-one shall part us - not the great nor the good.
And all the trappings of youth, I'll gladly eschew,
For my life and my fate are wrapped up in you.
I will love you future.
Forgive that these words are written not said,
But better on paper than locked in my head;
Too long left unspoken, these things I've ignored,
Instead of my telling the one I've adored.
So please let me right this terrible wrong,
And say you'll accept me as your partner lifelong.
I did love you past -
I do love you present -
I will love you future.
