Loss

I'm so sorry for your loss,
And now
You're gonna be kinda cross,
His death was
Down to me
You see,
I'd only had a few,
I guess I was never thinking of you,
I thought I could handle my drink,
But I guess I didn't think.
No I guess I didn't think.
I never seem to think.
There was me and your son in the front,
And too drunk girls in the back,
They said go faster you little wimp,
Or they'd be making tracks,
So I stepped my foot on the gas,
And swerved round the winding bend,
How as I to know one bad turn,
Would lead to your son's end?
Blood over the windscreen,
Shattered glass on the ground,
No one said anything,
His dying heartbeat was the only sound,
We got out the car and one of the girls dialed 999,
But she could barely strike the digits,
From all those glasses of wine.
But when the ambulance arrived,
Something else was at the behind and shining blue,
The shock in my eyes, but hardly a surprise,
And I knew that my fate was true.
A policeman stepped out of the van,
Have you been drinking you stupid young man?
Don't you know it's wrong to drink and drive?
Have you never heard of a little thing called suicide?
So now I've stuffed up,
And ended up behind bars,
I should have known
Not to mix drink with cars,
So once again, I'm sorry for you loss,
And I know when you see me in jail,
You won't give a flipping toss!
