Mike was unhappy
Slumping in his chair
so Vandana took him out
to Waterstones.
Bug-eyed he watched
as she selected a compact, red book
shiny and exact
and after paying he brought it home.
He looked at it: a happy book.

The next time Vandana came to visit
she noticed the changed face
straight-backed, bold step and casual eyes
she frowned
so he took her by the hand "the guided tour"
and in every room books in their lines
in every space and gap and crevice and inbetween
books stacked and piled like lego bricks
slotted in and neatly packed.
He smiled as he looked and he sighed.
