Mobile Phones
Familiar tunes, incessant rings,
A brand new message a smile brings.
Not everyone is filled with joy
At the introduction of this business toy.
If you've sat inside a train
They soon become an annoying drain
People talking louder than normal
Conversations become less formal.
Do we really need to know
That poor old Stephen's stubbed his toe?
Or the nanny's left and won't be home,
It's ok though, she's got a phone!
Even shopping in the town centre,
Was your scarf blue darling , or perhaps magenta.
Nobody ever stops to speak
Except when there's an alerting bleep
I hope technology will rid us soon
Of this umbilical link to a man-made womb.
