No more elephants

So awfully young to marry, they said
Hardly of an age to leave her dad
It was only last night he said sleep tight
And don't dream of pink elephants
We walk up the aisle in step, Dad said
Count each stride slowly in your head
To choreograph
He said with a laugh
At each pace count one elephant
Clinging tight to his arm she began her march
Through porch and limestone entrance arch
Up the aisle she could not smile
Desperately counting elephants
Family and friends froze in their pews
The bride was shaking in her shoes
Dad held her tight so Mary might
Keep ticking off the elephants
She swooned and he had to carry her
Up to the boy who'd marry her
Dad let go but she cried, No!
No, there are no more elephants!
