Old Tom's shack

Childhood sweethearts I used to hold your hand
walked you home the pretty way across the waste land
down past the meat factory we ran past Devils door
we never looked inside in case we saw what we saw.
And when the rain was coming down
we would hide in old Tom's shack
they used to say his ghost was there
waiting in the black.
There hanging in the shack
was Tom's old hat and coat
did it played tricks with our eyes
or did it really float.
Then one day I put on that coat
and hid behind that hat
jumped out of the dark
to give you a heart attack.
Please talk to me
don't lay there so cold
please talk to me
this joke has got to old.
Now I hear the drops of rain
and they whisper your name
there ghostly yowl
brushes my window pane.
On my pretty Hanna
twenty years have gone
but when it rains
I hear your ghostly song.
