One person, different people

one's mind as the needle's eye
only takes a single thread,
sees at any one given instance
only a small aspect of another person.
and like the ever changing whims of nature
we all change constantly in personality.

now a friend and later a helper
previously a teacher, mentor or hero
once an opponent or foe,
has been a mirror, a crutch or pillow
could be a hindrance or a barrier
or might have been an outright nuisance.

one and the same person
but in various guises every time.
at any one given instance
anyone could be anything to you,
whatever they may be now
or may have been in the past.
