What is a word you'd use
For me, for arms braced
Against the windowframe?
You take a compliment,
Tired voice breaking heavily,
And not from impending age.
We could sit, fingers laced
Together, musically entwined.
Katharine: You seem dazed.
Ellie: Why, no.
Not today.
Our lost intimacy pains me;
Such a waste, for we are
Similar, are we not?
Katharine: I don't remember that.
Ellie: It never happened, yet.
Neither did a smudge on poetry
Where a tear stays hidden,
Impossibly two-faced, missing
Anything you thought was gone.
