Quiet Death in Leamington
By cougar

A frosted window on greying skies
Shadowed clouds on speeding lies
A faux-fire burning in Edwardian grate
Early morning steam rising off grey slate
White tipped horses roaming the shore
Red suited child of the age of four
Tripping down the street with mother in tow
Childhood discoveries to treasure and show
Marigolds decaying on overcast sill
Jack peering in at the lady on the till
White-clipped borders, sun-stained grass
Green graffiti, concrete, glass
Fog creeping over the window pane
Peeling paint putting daughter to shame
Faded stucco on the brightened walls
Identical dinners and irregular calls
Faded photographs on sanitised mantle
Dried up roses and a forgotten candle
Nurse enters in, breath of light
But Leamington woman left in the night.
