Mrs Henry B. Harris. There, the first time I have written my new name,
and how wonderful it feels. It is a fitting way to start my first diary
as a married lady. This is the first day of a glorious future. How dull
and grey everything seemed before today. Thank you White Star, thank
you Captain Smith. Married by a Ship's Captain, on the most luxurious
vessel, on its maiden voyage. Two days ago, both she and I were
novices, unsure but full of joyful anticipation, but now... I shall
never forget my time here, we are forever linked now, this ship and
I.
I wish Henry were here, but I expect he will tire of men's conversation
soon enough. He is still such an excitable child at heart, so
interested in detail; we are travelling at 22 knots now, he told me at
supper. Certainly it is much colder than yesterday, so will I need an
extra blanket or will Mr Harris keep me warm?
But look, 11.40 already. Shall I be this late to retire every night I
wonder? I will stop now. It is too late for writing, and there seems to
be a disturbance outside.
