Reunion

Across a dusty railway track we meet each other's stare
And half a lifetime falls away as though it wasn't there
The pony tail and mini skirts and gropings in the dark
The back row of the Regal and the toolshed in the park
The day your parents weren't around, and doing it for real!
Then waiting for your period, not knowing what to feel...
Not knowing what to say to you, like strangers when we met
Never speaking of the afternoon we never would forget
'Til you set my mind at rest with just a flicker of a smile
And one more time I held you and felt better for a while
But it couldn't be the same again no matter how we tried
And that final day we parted neither of us cried.
And now across the tracks we gaze, not knowing what to say
And we're grateful when the train comes in and sweeps the past
away.
