Ringbearer

They laughed at you,
Calling you a coward,
A witless halfling.
How could you carry such a task?
Outside you were wounded.
In your soul, you knew it was your destiny.
There are those that defend you,
Those who stand up for you.
They believe in you, and
Know your true self.
But they are held as unimportant, and are
Barred outside, locked out,
Forced to listen at the keyhole.
Wiser beings than you
Surround you on all sides,
Engaged in heated debate.
Who will bear such an evil burden?
They all know, but they refuse to admit it.
He's too innocent, too fearful?too untrustworthy.
Strength and power shall serve as worthy substitutes.
Deep in thought, their voices fill the hall.
In your heart you know the truth.
But can you say it?say it out loud?
It frightens you to think of it?
You must. It is the only way.
Truth must be heard in
The face of denial.
"I will take the Ring?
Though I do not know the way,"
Your shuddering voice
Echoes off the arching ceilings.
The silence is deafening.
The truth has been revealed.
It is fruitless?everyone knew.
Refusal to believe
Is much easier than accepting truth.
The meek, the mild, the weak
Must bear the burden to dark and
Forbidding lands, lands of evil?
Lands that not even the bravest warriors
Dare to enter.
Fate is sealed forever more.
Your shoulders hunch over, broken
And borne down by the sudden weight
Of your burden--your fate.
Your fear and hesitation have been
Defeated?defeated by a few words.
In these desperate times, the wise
Turn to the weak.
Find your voice, your courage, and
Stand up, fulfill your destiny.
You have been chosen.
You are the Ringbearer.
