TITTY TEA-CAKE'S PICNIC
Titty Tea-Cake is a Mouse. She lives in Lily Wood in a little cottage,
and has a lot of friends. Her vest friend is Mirabella Mushroom, a
Vole. Their worst enemy is Veronica Nightshade, a very interfering
Rat!
Titty Tea-Cake had just woken up, and, looking out of the window, she
saw what a beautiful day it was.
"I think I'll go for a picnic by Lagoon Lake." She said, thinking
aloud.
So, she put on her favourite yellow flowered dress, got out her picnic
basket, and set it on the able. Then she went over to the cupboard to
see what she could take on her picnic. She took out a jar of Honey,
some home-made bread and butter and began to make some sandwiches. Then
she took out a handful of Coconut cookies, wrapped them up and put them
in her basket. Finally, she took twelve pence out f her purse, opened
the door, and set off towards the Baker's.
When at last she reached the Baker's, she swung open the door to see a
very worried looking Baker standing behind the counter.
"Oh woe is me!" he cried. "What shall I do?"
"Whatever is the matter?" asked Titty.
"Well," said the Baker, "The Duke and Duchess of Lily are coming to the
wood today, and I have nothing to give them!"
"Never fear, Titty's here!" cried Titty, and out of her basket she
brought the delicious Coconut cookies.
"There!" she cried triumphantly, handing them over.
"Thank you so much Miss Tea-Cake." Said the Baker, bowing.
Titty forgot all about her twelve pence to buy a cake, and let herself
out of the Baker door, sniffing at the cool air.
She set off down the lane to a row of huts called "Hibernation Lane".
As Titty was passing Little Bears Cottage, out popped Little Mrs
Bear.
"Titty, please can you help us? Our well has dried up and we're
parched!"
By this time, Little Mrs Bear was down on her furry knees,
begging.
Titty was a very kind mouse, so she reached into her basket, got the
Lemonade, and gave it to Little Mrs Bear.
"Thankyou, Thankyou," said Little Mrs Bear.
Titty Tea-Cake set off once more, this time way out near the edge of
the wood to pick some flowers. When she reached the edge of the wood,
she saw, through the fence, a brightly coloured line of circus trucks.
As she watched, she saw the circus master chase two dogs out of a
caravan, cracking his long whip behind them. They ran straight toward
Titty, and a bit too soon, she found herself peering up at two large,
chocolate brown dogs!
She delved into her basket once more, and threw the four Honey
sandwiches towards the dogs. While they were chewing away at the tiny
mouse-sized sandwiches, Titty ran for her life.
She ran all the way to Lagoon Lake, where she sat down to eat the only
thing she had left. Fruit. She got the fruit out of her basket, and was
just about to take a bit, when a grubby hand took it from her! She
stared up to the sky, and in the trees saw a cheeky monkey face. Even
though she was angry, Titty still laughed. Now she had nothing left for
her picnic.
First she had given her Cookies to the Baker, Lemonade to Little Mrs
Bear, her sandwiches to the two dogs, and a monkey had taken her
fruit.
As she thought to herself, the Baker, Little Mrs Bear, the two dogs and
the monkey crept up behind her.
"BOO!!" the all shouted.
Titty turned round and saw all of them holding an enormous cake. It had
pink icing flower, and said "For Titty, from Baker, Little Mrs Bear,
Titch and Tiny (the circus dogs) and Molly the Monkey" in blue
icing.
Titty Tea-Cake was overjoyed, and shared the cake with everyone.
"This is the best picnic I've ever had!" she thought.
