I had traveled now for a trillion miles
across a wide expanse of space;
when all at once I descended upon
a strange and eerie place.
its sky was a fiery orange,
the sand was coloured puce;
its ragged rocks had a bluish tinge
and my legs had lost their use.
I floated about like a spectre
over a silently weird landscape,
but could not find intelligent life
with which to communicate.
I flew across pink mountains
with incredible ease and speed
until I came to a glittering lake
where grew an exotic weed.
Its fronds were all translucent
with roots anchored in the mud,
then as I approached to take a look
it turned the colour of blood.
My curiosity turned to horror
as it stealthily began to curl
its slimy tendrils around my legs,
its petal face unfurl.
When all at once it pulled me down
beneath the surface of the lake,
I coughed, choked and spluttered
then sprang up wide awake;
I awoke at home in my cosy bed,
relieved in the extreme
to discover that I was having
a most unpleasant dream!
Later that morning
standing idly by the pond,
I unexpectedly noticed
a most unusual frond,
It was beautifully translucent
in the early morning dew
when suddenly I was stricken
by a feeling of deja vu.
I bent right down to touch it
I got an awful shock,
It spurted blood all over me
staining my pretty frock;
it snaked a vine around my wrist
then drew me to it's face,
I struggled free and made a dash
away from that ghastly place.
In great relief I sighed a sigh
and sat upon a wall,
when to my living terror
I soon began to fall;
I fell away and fell and fell
landing upon my head,
then got a shock when I awoke
to find myself in bed.
I put my toe out tentatively
and stood upon the floor,
I pinched myself just to see if
I was awake once more,
around my feet the waters lapped,
I was sinking awfully fast,
As vainly I screamed aloud ...
HOW LONG CAN THIS NIGHTMARE LAST!!!
