"How am I supposed to let him know? she ponders. Only to reply to
herself after a few seconds later, "I expect that I will just have to
show him - somethings never change!"
She moves quietly over to the bed in which he lays. The bedclothes are
ruffled and partly on the floor due to the tossing and turning in his
fitful sleep.
She kisses his forehead gently and his face seems to become less tense
as he settles into a more comfortable type of sleep. She can't resist
sitting down at the top of the bed and singing quietly into his ear
"their song" - "I will love you, always". She whispers "Why not make my
favourite cake tomorrow?" He starts to smile in his sleep and there are
rapid movement from his eyelids.
"Better not to wake him up" and she quietly leaves the bedroom.
Food and music were the main two things that connected together the
soulmates from the very first time they laid eyes on each other. Well
hopefully, tomorrow would work out just fine...
He woke at the crack of dawn, feeling throroughly rested and happy but
couldn't quite work it out. He set to work preparing all his sandwiches
and rolls for his catering business as usual, then began to make one of
his speciality cakes. He hadn't made this cake for over a year but
someone it all seemed to come back to him; the ingredients, preparation
and the cooking time.
He delivered them to his shop just after 7am. His shop assistant,
Betty, smiled as she greeted him and saw how he relaxed he looked. She
was still smiling when she saw the apple pie. She wasn't sure whether
she should mention the apple pie in case it changed his mood. He was
obviously trying. The early morning truck drivers start to arrive and
the full breakfast rush begins...
It was just after half past one, when he returned to his shop. Betty
was suprised to see him so early. He still looked happy as he requested
a coffee and a piece of apple pie. A customer comes in. She
acknowledges the man and says, "That apple pies looks great! I think
I'll have some - mind if I join you?"
"Yeah - sure" he stammers, with his head down and eyes almost
closed.
They sit down at a table, looking a little awkward at each other.
Although the shop has several customers, only the Disc Jockey's voice
can be heard telling about a special request. From the radio a familiar
song begins to play...
They both smile at each other and have a feeling everything is going to
be all right...
