Zeitgeist

All this time we lived discretely,
diverted from what mattered, and
silent in the creaking hulls of ships we sailed.
These became our sheltered havens-
discretion in the face of all
weather that the storm-lashed decks and sails endured.
And the seas return to calm. We
sail beyond lost patterns, stand
on decks amazed at change, now our hearts have failed.
Starkly real these dreadful maidens,
lamenting for their loss, the pall
of fear, deep like any waters love immured.
