Gone
Once I saw your face flooding the waiting moon,
The light of your light eyes leapt from the stars.
I heard your voice soothing me midnight to noon
Below screaming city crowds and screeching cars.
How could I forget you when every
Fold and line of your body used to be
Imprinted on every fold and line
That made up this wanting shell of mine?
How could I cease to recall your touch?
Surely it lingers still in my fingertips
Surely I should feel a chill in these faithless lips
When they profess to love another just as much?
Once I believed your name was coded in my DNA,
Now I find that it had never staked it's claim to be
Any part of my heart; and when I look today
I see your image has flown from my memory.
