Facing the music

I remember hearing Genesis
While lain in bed that night,
As the bombers leveled Tripoli
And no-one gave a shite.
I saw the troops in Vietnam
Lay endless Anthrax dawns,
As you strained your ears for Elvis
And met the news with yawns.
And with Allende's overthrow,
Despite his people's vote,
As Pinochet just massacred,
Abba hit their note.
The hypocrite of history,
The truth you've always spurned,
And fiddled just like Nero
As the innocents have burned.
So when I heard of tumbling towers,
The burst of Sam's ballon,
When you that pay the pipers
Didn't get to call the tune,
And now you stand, stunned, silent,
At the wrong end of the gun.
The world moves on;
I shrug
And I put some music on.
