Picking up the Pieces
Can I trust you with my heart?
The beat-up, run-down, rusty parts?
I'm falling and you've caught my hand,
But can I trust you to understand?
I believe in dreams come true,
Happy endings, skies of blue,
Shattered dreams leave a nasty bruise--
Can I trust my hopes to you?
No, I don't want to play the part
Of a noble, tragic, broken heart,
Not Knight and Lady, nor King and Queen,
Nor romance on the silver screen.
All I want is a walk in the park,
A kiss under starlight, a hand in the dark.
Promises kept, and time spent with a friend--
Isn't that everyone's wish in the end?
Will you hold me, broken-hearted?
Restore my faith to where I started?
When I cry or when I laugh,
Or act a "nightmare and a half "--
Will you trust me when you're blue?
Is my happy ending you?
