'Mommy, I want chocolate chip biscuits', Andy said. Andy was five
years old and had just started attending junior school. His mother, a
doctor by trade replied, 'But darling we don't have any chocolate chip
biscuits now. I will go to the market in the evening and get some.' It
was seven thirty in the morning and little Andy had just got up from
bed. He was a little uneasy and was groping his way around the house.
He went to his Dad, also a doctor. Andy's father was reading the
morning paper. His face was concealed in the paper and he did not see
Andy come. The little boy pulled at the paper and requested that the
comic strips be read out to him. However the gentleman was immersed in
the financial news and was in no position to entertain his son. So Andy
moved on. He went to the kitchen where his mother was making breakfast.
He looked into his mother's eyes and said, 'Momma I saw something last
night.' Mrs Smith, his mother said encouragingly, 'Of course you did
darling.' Andy continued, 'When everyone was asleep I was standing at
my window. Suddenly a dish fell out of the sky.' Mrs Smith looked at
her son in disbelief. 'My word, Andy you can imagine a lot.'Andy
protested, 'But momma this really happened. The dish was small as a
kitchen dish. While I was looking a man came out of the dish. He was
tall as the sky.' Mrs Smith was growing a little wary of what her son
was saying. Looking at her watch and alarmed at the time she said to
Andy, 'You are running late. Now off you go and get ready for school.'
Soon, Andy had his breakfast and was dropped at school by his parents
on the way to their clinic.
In the evening Andy was asked to do his homework before watching
television. His parents had had a discussion about Andy during the day.
Both felt that Andy was watching too much television. They felt that
Andy had a very fertile imagination for a five year old but like
anything else his creativity needed to be harnessed. Andy was made to
take dinner early and was put to bed at eight pm.
Andy was up early next morning. In fact it was he who woke his parents
up at six am. 'Mommy,' he told his mother, 'The dish had come again
last night. The man from the dish had a light on his head. When the
light came on it was like day.' Now, these words had both Mr and Mrs
Smith worried. The two of them had gone to bed at ten-thirty. By then
Andy was fast asleep. They had checked this more than once. Something
had to be done. It was decided that Andy would sleep with his parents
from that day. Andy seemed not to be disturbed by the extra attention
he was getting. He was going through the routine activity of school as
before. He played soccer with friends in the late afternoon and went
for swimming classes in the evening. He also did his homework on time.
His parents were amazed to find that Andy was performing better than
before. That night the whole family had dinner together at eight and
lights were switched off by eight-thirty. The television was switched
off too lest something on television disturbed Andy's sleep.
But it was all of no use. Next morning Andy woke everyone before
daybreak. 'Mom, mom, I know Chinese, I know Chinese.' He went on to
narrate the previous night's happenings. His friend from the dish had
come on the stroke of midnight. Andy had gone to the bathroom and while
coming back he had visited the porch. The alien-like creature had
spoken to him from the garden. It had a feminine voice. The voice had
spoken in English first and then translated the words first into
Spanish, then Italian, French, German any in many other languages.
Before he came away the voice had spoken in Chinese and Andy had picked
up the words. Of course Andy did not know that the language spoken was
Chinese, the voice had told him.
Now the Smiths were worried. They were afraid that their son was not
mentally fit. They were afraid that he was suffering from some serious
ailment. Andy was prevented from going to school. Only his father went
to work that day. His mother gave him company all day long. She made
his favourite dishes and rented DVDs of his most-liked movies. It was
decided that they would keep a night-long vigil. With Mr and Mrs Smith
would be a para-psychologist and a psychiatrist. The latter person was
a lady of Chinese origin. Andy was given his favourite food in the
evening. What he did not know was that his soup had sleeping pills
added to it. By eight thirty Andy was fast asleep. The lights were
switched off and everyone waited on the porch. On the stroke of
midnight there was a noise. Andy was coming out of his room. As he
arrived on the porch a metallic noise was heard. Everyone's gaze turned
to the far end of the lawn in front of the house. There was a shiny
metallic object as small as a saucer that you place below a tea-cup.
Suddenly there was a lot of smoke and out of the smoke emerged a huge
figure. The figure seemed to be as tall as the sky. It had a thin torso
with small hands, small head and very long legs. Suddenly one of the
hands touched the forehead. After a while a light emerged out of the
forehead. The light was so strong that it seemed to be day. The head
seemed to take a bow and a pleasing feminine voice came out, 'Hello, I
am Min. Will you be my friend?' These words were repeated in many
languages one of which was recognized by the Chinese lady as her mother
tongue.
