Mr Day died last year. He left behind two sons-Ian and Andy. Ian is
older by a year. They used to attend a local school. Used to because
both dropped out two years before. Its not that the boys were not good
at studies or lacked application. There was just no one to look after
them. Ian is eighteen and Andy seventeen years old. The two boys lost
their mother five years ago in a car accident. Then, Mr Day lost his
job. He began going door to door selling writing instruments of all
kinds. He was making good progress when he suddenly fell sick. No
doctor could determine what his disease was but most thought his nerves
were losing strength. After a tough fight he died leaving his sons
totally unprepared for the battles of life. He did leave them some
money and the interest earned from it could keep them going for at
least a year. But the boys had to find work and they tried very hard to
secure jobs. Six months passed and they were still seeking employment.
And then Mrs Nikita Roy moved in next door.
Nikita liked to be known as a seductress. She liked to shock and
surprise people. She wanted people to become nervous when she entered
the room. Every dress she wore was selected to make her competitors
green with envy. She learnt how to transform her admittedly plain face
with make-up. She was born in a lower middle-class family but made no
secret of her desire to become rich and powerful. She completely
believed that she possessed the charm and beauty with which she could
conquer the hearts and minds of any man that walked the earth. Yet, her
husband of five years wanted to divorce her. Roger Roy was a leading
lawyer. He was handsome, rich, dynamic and a man with a brilliant
future. He had married Nikita after courting her for a year. He wanted
his wife to be pretty, articulate and stylish. He found Nikita to be
petty, foolish and jealous. He had had enough of her and now wanted
divorce. He was eager to marry Lily, the daughter of a top judge. This
latter lady lived very near Ian and Andy Day. This is why Nikita had
taken a house adjacent to the home of the two helpless boys.
Both Ian and Andy were impressed by Nikita Roy. She had been staying
alone for six months now. Officially she was being angry with her
husband. However she was looking for an excuse to go back to her
precious life-partner. Ian approached her for any job she wanted done.
And it was then that Nikita got the idea. She called Ian and Andy to
lunch. She had some idea about the food they liked. And she was right.
The boys loved her cooking. Now, she was dressed attractively too. Ian
wanted to talk with her some more and Andy wanted to return home.
Nikita immediately sensed what was happening. She put her arms around
Ian, looked into his eyes and said, "I have a job for you." The job was
this. The boys were required to keep some of Nikita's jewellery inside
Lily's wardrobe. Ian immediately said that this was wrong. Nikita
kissed him on the lips and sang, "Won't you do it for me? Please?"
There was no way in which Ian could now refuse. He told Andy that the
money being offered was too good to turn away from. The next day Ian
and Andy broke into Lily's house and kept Nikita's jewellery in the
unsuspecting lady's wardrobe. A day later Nikita reported the theft.
The stolen goods were later recovered from Liliy's house. Thanks to the
efforts of her father and Roger Roy, Lily escaped a jail sentence. But
there was more. Next Sunday Nikita called Ian to her house. She asked
him to wait in the living room. After about five minutes she came out
with two glasses, soda and a bottle of whisky. She poured the alcohol
into the glasses and took one herself. The other, she gave to Ian. She
tossed her hair, bared her shoulder and purred, "O, I am so lonely."
Ian remained stoic. Then, she kissed his knees gently and said,
"Please, just once more." Ian was so embarrassed he found himself
saying, "What do I have to do?" Nikita explained the job. Lily had a
beautiful white dog which moved around unattended in the lawn every
morning. All Ian had to do was kill the dog and leave the corpse in the
lawn. The money being offered for the job was twice that in the first
case. Ian found no reason to say no. The dog was killed the next
morning. Lily fainted when she saw the dead dog. Roger visited her in
the evening. Despite Nikita's best attempts Roger showed no signs of
gravitating towards her. There was only one thing left to do.
Two days later Nikita called Ian. She made up a story in which Lily was
her evil sister. She had tormented her all her life and now she was
trying to break up her marriage. She told Ian that she was good and
nice while Lily was evil and aggressive. She threw herself at any man
who cared to look at her. The horrible Lily had to be removed from the
world. And there was just one man who could do it. Just one REAL man.
Ian was horrified. He had stolen, he had killed an animal. And now,
this lady who called herself good wanted him to kill her own sister.
Ian immediately told Nikita that he could never take the life of
another person even if she was his greatest enemy. Nikita paused for a
moment. Then with a winning smile she said, "Forget all that. I have
something inside that room which I have specially bought for you." And
she pointed to her bedroom. It was a long time since anyone had given
Ian or his brother any gift. So, he quietly followed Nikita into her
room. Nikita had actually prepared for this. She and Ian loved each
other with passion and then Ian left to do the job.
Ian killed Lily that evening. As he was leaving Lily's house after the
murder he was arrested. The police had been informed through an
anonymous phone-call. Nikita was happy. Roger Roy visited her next
morning and took her home.
