Policeman's Diary

August 24:It has been a busy day on my beat.We visited a house in Golf Green to investigate a theft.Can't really call it a theft.What happened was this.Mrs Sen had invited her new neighbour Mrs Das for afternoon tea.Mrs Das was wearing beautiful ornaments.Mrs Sen was impressed.A few days later Mrs Das again visited the Sens,with a small request.Her ornaments had been sent for polishing.So could Mrs Sen please lend her diamond necklace.Generally,Mrs Sen does not lend her stuff to anyone.But in this case she made an exception.Neither Mrs Das nor the necklace were to be found again.It seemed that the Das family had requested the owner of the flat to let them stay only for a month and he had acceded.Well the family reported the matter to us,the police.We have thoroughly combed the Das' flat.There are certainly no clues there.Our inspector has sent Mrs Das' descriptive portrait to all police stations.Lets see what happens.
September 6:The Das family has struck again.This time they have called themselves Sorcar.The story is only slightly different.Mrs Sorcar visited a bachelor with a request to keep her ornaments for safekeeping.The bachelor who was a kind man agreed to keep the jewellery.Then the ornaments were required for a party.But a particular piece went missing.You guessed it.It was the diamond necklace.Mrs Sorcar stopped short of abusing the poor man and accusing him of theft.She began to insinuate that he had made moves on her and was just playing dirty to take advantage of her.What was the poor man to do.He bought Mrs Sorcar a whole set of diamond ornaments to save his honour.It was later found that all the ornaments kept for safekeeping were fakes.
October 2:Well,the thief,or lets say the thieves have been caught.Mrs Day/Mrs Sorcar/Mrs Das was getting too smart.But there is a pathetic side to the whole story.Let me tell you.This time Mrs Day was planning on making a big heist.She visited a huge jewellery shop and asked to see ornaments worth one million pounds.Thats right a million pounds.The owner did not know what to do.He quietly went inside and informed the police.While the police came he planned to keep the lady entertained.Then,he noticed that she was talking to the driver of her car.It was a huge BMW,the best in town.The owner was now sorry that he had doubted the lady's intentions in the first place.The lady nearly bought the whole shop and paid by cheque.The owner had instructed his employees to call the police asking them not to come.But the police did come.For another call had been made to them.The BMW was stolen.Mrs Day was caught.And now comes the real clincher.Mrs Day/Mrs Sorcar/Mrs Das was actually called Rain Sen.She was married to a scientist Jon Sen.Dr Sen had been trying to find a cure for cancer privately.Mrs Rain Sen was madly in love with her husband who had neither job nor income.She had become a thief to support his fruitless research.
