Cooling Towers is in the business of making well, cooling towers.
Cooling towers are bought by heavy industries all over india for
cooling industrial water. Other than that Popular also makes plastic
bags for Uncle Chips potato wafers. The head office of this
organization is situated in Viola near Calcutta. The building that
houses all the forty-five departments has ten floors. The fifth floor
holds the accounts department. The said department has two employees
per cubicle. The head of the department Mr Sandy Tenwala however has a
cubicle of his own. Mr Tenwala reports to the President-Planning Mr
Som. Tenwala lives in Golf Green in the suburbs and travels to office
by car. Today is his fortieth birthday. Tenwala has been a brilliant
student all his life and secured seventh position in the qualification
exams of the Chartered Accountancy Institute. He is looked upon as one
of the brightest stars to work for Popular Cooling Towers.
the compound of Popular Cooling Towers he felt satisfied. His father
had been jailed for fraud while working for the railways. Of course
this had happened outside Calcutta and nobody in Popular knew anything
about it. He was now Vice President-Financial Planning. He owned a
beautiful house. He had three cars. He was also member of Bengal Club
where only few lucky people are admitted. His son went to Mayo College,
an exclusive boarding school. He was also the head of many professional
associations. In short, he could be called a successful man. As he
stepped out of the executive lift into the fifth floor he felt a little
strange. His bearer had not received him at the gate and carried his
bag upstairs. Just as Tenwala stepped into the air-conditioned office
area he was aproached by a stocky man. 'Hello Mr Tenwala I am SR Ghose
from Ghose &;amp; Ghose Auditors. I been asked to inform you that
you are being officially accused of fraud. We have found that you have
removed forty-thousand pounds from the company's coffers.' Tenwala
found himself shaking. Then, he collected his senses about him. He
stated, 'Let me inform you Mr Ghose I have been on leave for three
months and came back only last week. My deputy was signing all the
important documents during this time.' Mr Ghose said, 'I think we know
that Mr Tenwala. We are examining last year's accounts. You have been
making vouchers for Messrs Benwala &;amp; Co. There is no firm by
this name. We have found that you have been collecting payment for this
company and transferring them to your bank account'. Tenwala was now
completely red in the face. He began to sound silly, 'I don't keep my
money in the bank. I keep all my cash with my mother at home.'
class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt">Just then Tenwala's
boss Mr Som appeared from his cabin. 'Tenwala, I regret to inform you
that you are suspended indefinitely with immediate effect from today.
Please collect your personal belongings and leave our premises
immediately.' Now Tenwala's head was spinning like a top. His bag
dropped to the floor. He felt that the whole office was laughing at
him. He somehow dragged himself to his cubicle. A surprise awaited him
there.
On
his table
Tenwala found
a greeting card. He opened the card with trembling hands. The card
read, 'Sorry for the prank. We couldn't think of a better way to
surprise you. Happy Birthday'. It was signed 'Mr Som and the gang at
Popular'. There are no words to describe the sense of relief Tenwala
felt. It was as if his very life had been returned to him. As he got
back to work Tenwala chuckled to himself as he thought over the
morning's
events. If only they knew about the country home he had
purchased with the forty thousand pounds that had made him richer.
