Raining in Avignon

Raining in Avignon
It's raining in Avignon, unusually so,
As before when it caused half the bridge to let go
Of the half that I stood on
In strong autumn sun
And wondered if dancing would bring me much fun -
I decided against it
Preferring instead
To record for posterity the half that remained
(The half that hadn't collapsed when it rained)
On my camera,
Like so many have done,
Which results in only thinking of sun
In Avignon.
The rain's coming in from a soggy Camargue
To the Avignon streets like a watery plague;
The streets that I walked on
While looking for shade,
More used to a touristic cavalcade.
Even the back streets
Where I found a canal
Which seemed to have all of its water well trained
(Perhaps it was built once before when it rained)
Are awash now,
No longer bathing in sun
That I think of, like so many have done,
In Avignon.
