Passion Eulogy

The night grins like a sated whale,
Cossets my soul, my face growing pale,
Opens me wide, hangs me from my tail,
And outpours an amorphous flow of think.
Today felt like so many days before,
Days from years before; a silent winter dog,
waiting to pounce from my heart, my lips,
My eyes drinking cold love, flushed cheek lust,
On glazed benches, grass held stiff: shimmering light on ice.
Trees felt strong and made to be held against,
Kisses were hot and forbidden behind buffetted lips,
Cold weather bodies covered, faces shone
Out with soul and glassy eyed.
Walking home was slow and deliberate.
Teeth chattered new wanting, new lust,
Awakening warmth. The feel multiplied,
The heat like sure embers-hotter, hotter,
And the night gave in.
Gave us the full moon,
The smell of gorse,
Frozen ground beneath boots,
And the distant, limitless stars,
Reflected in loves' eyes-
Saliva like honey,
To take us to bed.
