Dogged Drama

Today I will write a poem, the subject is my dog
Yet no one really cares for this or looks at you agog
Today I will write some poetry of man's best friend
Though I cannot see it likely of starting a topical trend
What is there I can say about the canine on my floor
Better tales than his exist and it's all been said before
What words can I place together to describe this sorry creature
Head, legs, a body and a nose, but no outstanding feature
If only he could know all the headaches this can cause
As I pause to find excitement in those four obtrusive paws
He gazes over quizzically with soft eyes so appealing
Still there is no bark or bite at lines with any feeling
Staring at his solemn face with apparent writers block
I realise that there's nothing here to make my readers flock
Suddenly my creation fills as many words are found
I will complete a verse or two but not about my hound
