I MET MY LOVE
AT DURDLE DOOR
At Lulworth cove
I chanced to be
One summer's day
Sleeping by the sea
I had a dream
Of days, long time ago
A sailor's life and love
The story, my dream did show
Later when I awoke
Remembering, only a name
I wandered o'er to Durdle door
A local place of fame
And as I sat upon the hill
Taking in the scene
The voice of an Angel broke the spell
A voice so soft, Serene.
I quickly turned around to see
A vision, against the sky
She spoke again, her voice so soft
" I'm Josephine, Hi"
She sat down there beside me
And we talked for a while
She told me of her family's past
I couldn't help but smile.
I told her of the dream I had
Beyond in Lulworth cove
She said her great-grandfather
Had lived in the cottage above
His father had been ship wrecked
When he sailed the seven seas
Until his return, his love had planted
Yearly, each of those ten trees.
She took me to the oldest tree
There, encircled in a heart
Their names, with love were carved
And a vow, never more to part
Those names were in my memory
I'd heard them in my dream
Now my name, is carved beside
The great, grand-daughter, Josephine.
