IRISH EYES
IRELAND, a word that to many brings joy
NOTHERN IRELAND, two words that bring fear
The first one to me, brings memories of home
To the world, it's the others they hear.
I see a land of green and of gold
Peace, beauty, friendliness I saw
The rest of the world sees violence and flames
Killings, bombings and war.
I hear the music, the songs of the past
The birds, the sounds at the gate
All the world hears, is the bullets and bombs
The crying, the screaming of hate.
I read the poems, the stories of old
When IRELAND could hold her head high
The world reads of murder, of riot and fire
Its sad, I just want to cry.
I say to you now, that we must all change
The killing and violence must cease
The world says the same, no matter who's to blame
Together, we must work for peace.
