Peter was a Smooth Operator

From the office of the Harmony Motel
Peter Mcphee, watched.
He considered the guest registry
an index of assholes.

He would make sure the only
room left for the family of five
was without shower or bath.

He gave the summer lovers,
wanting a grinding of organs,
the room void of air conditioning.

He would put all women,
traveling alone,
in the room with the blood red tub.

Peter bookmarked pages in poetry journals,
with hand picked butterfly wings,
and loved the sound of mice scuttling in the walls.

The Town Council of Stag Harbor named Mcphee,
Business Man of the Year.
