Ceteris Paribus

One night I woke up blearily and started looking round,
I glanced at the foot of my bed whereabouts sat a huge and monstrous
hound,
My muscles all went rigid as it widened its single eye,
So terrified was I that I couldn't shout, I couldn't even cry.
The nightmare creature bared its fangs and shook its pitch black
coat,
It raised one paw into the air and swiped at my exposed throat,
As blood poured from my carotid vein the beast grinned an evil
grin,
It licked its dripping jaws and promptly tore at my fragile skin.
Suddenly the monster dog dissolved and a thought entered my mind,
I realised I had been dreaming and that I'd left the hound
behind,
As I truly woke it dawned on me that I was still right here on
Earth,
So I cursed, turned over, went back to sleep, with the demon to
converse.
