The magician didn't look like a magician.
He had no wand, top hat or cloak.
Passing a bin bag around the undone
restaurant, a turquoise brooch

unclipped, watches poured from wrists,
the magician was insistent:
necklaces clattered in,
mobiles, cufflinks, rings.
