You say...

You Say...
You say nobody hurt me. Nobody shut me in my room,
Screamed at me until I cried. Are you sure that's true,
Are you sure you never lied.
You say you answered my questions fully, told me what to do,
study hard, and use your brain. Don't, don't, don't
the constant refrain.
You say nobody sent me away; it was just an extra holiday,
I got home and you told me, teenage girls do stupid things when they're drunk by the sea.
You offered me a doctor or a priest, a quick fix to all the pain,
But it wasn't real; I know you were older and wiser,
But I just wanted a chance to heal.
You were the secret police of my childhood, you really had no idea,
You ranted on year on year, you say you remember my childhood well,
I certainly do, it was hell.
